Hamilton Selected in 2nd Round by the Edmonton Oilers

For the fourth straight year, a member of the Saskatoon Blades Hockey Club has been selected in the annual National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Left winger Curtis Hamilton was chosen by the Edmonton Oilers in the second round, 48th overall, this morning in Los Angeles. The 18-year-old Kelowna, B.C. product is coming off an injury-plagued season with the Blades. Hamilton played in only 26 games and five more in the playoffs because of three separate ailments…scoring 7 goals and 9 assists for 16 points in the regular-season and added 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points in the playoffs.

“My sister and I were watching the N.H.L. Network and the picks go by pretty fast, so I had to pause it, go back and play it again,” said Hamilton. “I thought I had a chance to get picked there because my agent and a couple of other people told me that I had a chance to go mid-second or late 2nd round and Edmonton was fairly interested in me, so I thought there might be a chance there.

“I think it’s going to be cool to be a part of the Oilers. With the first pick, they get Taylor Hall. They get Tyler Pitlick with their second pick…he’s supposed to be a really good player and going to be in Medicine Hat, too…so that’s pretty cool. You’ve got (Jordan) Eberle there and a lot of good, young players so it should be cool to be part of something like that!”

Hamilton becomes the 113th player in Saskatoon Blades’ franchise history to have his named called during the N.H.L. Entry Draft. In 44 years of Major Junior operation, this is the 38th season in which at least one member of the Blades has been picked in the draft.

“He’s a young guy that has a tremendous amount of upside and potential,” said Blades’ Alternate Governor, General Manager and Head Coach Lorne Molleken from the N-H-L Entry Draft in L.A. “There was lots of interest in Curtis heading into the draft and we had a feeling he would go somewhere in the 2nd round.”
